13th Southern School on Computational Chemistry and Materials Science

For the past thirteen years, JacksonStateUniversity’s Department of Chemistry has hosted the Southern School on Computational Chemistry and Materials Science (SSCC&MS).  In 2013, the 13th SSCC&MS was held between the dates of August 1-2, 2013 Jackson, MS.  A special feature of this year’s conference entailed a combination of 4 NSF-supported Summer Institutes including CREST, REU/ CAREER and PREM Programs.  A total of 33 participants representing each NSF program opened the 13th SSCC&MS on Thursday August 1st by giving 10-15 minute oral presentations and served as official speakers of the conference.

 

The 13th SSCC&MS Conference featured renowned speakers to include Jason Hafner, Rice University; Dennis Hess, Georgia Institute of Technology; and Vincent Crespi, Penn State University.    

 

The 2013 SSCC&MS hosted 88 participants from  5  different countries.  More than 53 posters were presented during the poster session and 19 talks were given by invited speakers. Over 55 of the poster presentations were given by high school, undergraduate, and graduate students.
